In what was considered a much awaited performance by Assamese music Hearthrob JOI BARUA ,The Rongali 2017 festival couldn’t have started better . Joi Barua was finally here to mesmerize his fans and music aficionado’s alike. With Assamese music in recent times going down the hill with slapstick music and poor execution and production , Joi Barua’s music and his performance came as a breath of fresh air for the music lovers .
Joi and his band were in the city on the occasion of performing at RONGALI FESTIVAL 2017 . The line up for the three days were tempting to say the least , which boasted of other performers like Hind rock Icons Euphoria and rock veterans Parikrama on the second day and Zubeen Garg and Alobo Naga and the band on the third . But if there was one performance everyone was waiting for , it was Joi Barua’s . Joi Barua having performed very scarcely in the city in recent times due to his Bollywood commitments , this performance not only was eagerly waited but also much talked about as music lovers were excited to see the man perform .
The band also boasted of some great names in the business and some regulars with Joi , the likes of Partha Goswami on the drums , Makfur Rahman on the lead guitars and Larry Matthew on the bass with Sankuraj accompanying them on the keyboards. Virtuoso Guitarist of the city Nibir Bhuyan was called specially to join the band for the occasion on guitars for the entire setlist .
Joi barua got on stage at about 7.30 pm and began his setlist with his smash hit ” Dusokute ” which set the ball rolling for the night. The band was tight which was expected with some pretty amazing and experienced musicians on stage. He sang some selective modern Assamese numbers from his albums and also Bollywood numbers like Dil Dhadakne do ( Zindagi na milegi dobara ). The rendition of Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s ” OI OI AKASH XUBO “ was the highlight of the performance , with an unexpected but great lead solo being incorporated by Nibir in the song to appeal to the younger generation . The band ended their performance with the fan favourite ” AAIKON BAIKON “ and the crowd went into complete frenzy . Although some hits like ” Tejimola ” and ” Pitol soku” couldn’t be performed due to a long line up of artists and lack of time , the crowd got their pennies worth after seeing JOI perform on stage .
Anylouder caught up with Joi Barua after the show and asked him about his experience and this is what he had to say –
” Its was a great experience to have performed at Rongali. It is a great initiative undertaken by Shyamkanu and it takes a lot of time and management to do it . I would love to perform here again as this is happening in my state and people should come together for it “
Renowned Neuro surgeon and an avid music lover Dr Navanil Barua quoted –
” Joi was brilliant on stage and has really evolved as a stage performer. He unshackled himself very well . The band was tight and Nibir Bhuyan did a good job in his maiden performance with Joi “
Nibir Bhuyan spoke to Anylouder and quoted –
” It was an amazing experience this time. Joi is the one of the very few Assamese musicians whom I appreciate and I love most of his songs. We perform and party like a band and there is absolute brotherhood within the band. All the musicians were very supportive towards me and I almost felt like playing with Celestial Way if you ask me about the comfort level within this band. And I would definitely play again with them whenever they invite me for gigs or even studio work “
